BOTH the Liberals and Labor Party have anointed the Central Coast as a must-win region if they are to have any chance of securing victory in September's federal election.

Residents got a taste of what the next seven months could be like when Federal Shadow Treasurer Joe Hockey visited Tuggerah and Erina on Monday and Tuesday.

Mr Hockey spent Monday morning walking through Westfield Tuggerah, with many voters stopping the former big man of politics for photographs.

Mr Hockey even showed his support for small business when he bought a new belt after losing 25kg following gastric band surgery.

While many voters complimented him on his new svelte look, many were quick to say they hoped for a change of government following the election on September 14.

"The clear message walking through the middle of Westfield Tuggerah was get rid of this mob, get rid of this government, it's a bad government and it's getting worse," Mr Hockey said.

"The Central Coast will determine how the election goes. This is hugely important not just Dobell but Robertson; these seats are crucial to the election and frankly people just want some stability."

He said the Liberal candidates were focussed on stability and predictability with no more wild rides.

The Liberal candidate for Robertson is Lucy Wicks and Dobell's candidate is Karen McNamara.
