REEVA Steenkamp was worried lies could ruin her relationship with Oscar Pistorius, the model said in her final interview - a week before she was shot dead in her boyfriend's house.
In the interview with heat magazine, Steenkamp said she “respects and admires” Pistorius.
But she also feared that negative publicity could harm the so-called Blade Runner’s career on the track.
“We haven’t been talking to the media because I don’t want to get it tainted,” she told the magazine.
Reeva Steenkamp gave her final interview to South Africa's heat magazine, in which she aired concerns that 'lies' would ruin relationship with Oscar Pistorius.
Pistorius, an Olympic runner whose lower legs were amputated when he was less than a year old, killed his Steenkamp in the predawn hours of Valentine's Day.
He claims he mistook her for an intruder when he shot her through a locked door in a bathroom in his home.

Prosecutors say the shooting happened after the couple got into an argument and allege the killing was deliberate.
His bail hearing will enter its fourth day later tonight (Australian time).

In the heat interview, Steenkamp added: “You know what they do, they make things up, ‘Reeva cheats on Oscar’ and rubbish like that. “I wouldn’t want lies about us jeopardising it.”
After her death, rumours circulated around South Africa about Steenkamp's relationship with Springbok rugby player Francois Hougaard, with police telling newspapers they were investigating texts and SMS messages on Steenkamp's phone for a possible motive in her killing.
The 29-year-old also said she wanted to move away from bikini shoots and become known for classier work.
Oscar Pistorius, charged with murdering his model girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine's Day, faces Pretoria Magistrate's Court on the third day of his bail hearing.
“I’m trying to work on my modelling career and remove myself from the whole FHM stigma,” she said.
“I want to be seen as a classic model.”
Andre Neveling, heat South Africa editor, said in a statement that the magazine had "a very good relationship with both Oscar and Reeva.
"As a couple they agreed to do an exclusive cover shoot with heat in April. During this candid one-on-one with heat seven days before her death, Reeva opened up for the first time about her blossoming romance.”
Steenkamp was cremated at a private ceremony in Port Elizabeth on Tuesday.
There was high drama in court overnight, when the policeman leading the investigation into Steenkamp's death was dropped from the case.
Hilton Botha, a 24-year veteran with the police, was was booted off the team after it was revealed he had been charged with attempted murder over an incident in 2011.
