FORMER AFL player agent Ricky Nixon has pleaded guilty to assaulting his ex-fiancee in the bedroom of his Melbourne apartment.
Nixon, 49, of Port Melbourne, pleaded guilty to intentionally causing injury and escaping from police custody in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Monday.
The court heard Nixon arrived home around 2am on Sunday, July 15 last year to find his estranged partner Tegan Gould in his bed.
The pair argued on the bed and Nixon grabbed her on the neck, pulled her hair, pushed her against the wall and hit her in the face.
Ms Gould fled the apartment and called 000.
When police arrived, Nixon came out of his apartment to speak to the officers and was told he was under arrest.
As police led him to their van, he broke free and fled along the Port Melbourne street.
He ran about 30 metres before the officers tackled him to the ground, the court heard.
Nixon's lawyer Theo Alexander described his client as a man of good character and said he was remorseful for his actions on the night.
"He is not proud of, nor in any way happy about, his conduct that evening," Mr Alexander said.
He said Nixon spent a month in a rehabilitation clinic in Queensland after the incident to receive treatment for post traumatic stress disorder.
Nixon told Magistrate Simon Garnett since leaving the clinic he had "spent every day getting my life back together".
Nixon also told Mr Garnett he had never acted violently towards his ex-wife during their 17-year marriage.
"I've never been involved in domestic violence and I'm working hard to make sure this never happens again, I'm truly sorry," he said.
The court heard Nixon could reapply for his player agent licence from Monday.
Nixon managed some of the AFL's biggest stars before he was deregistered by the league in 2011 after a series of controversies.
Mr Alexander said Nixon suffered the loss of his livelihood and marriage after his deregistration.
"For a man of 49 years, mid-life has been particularly difficult," Mr Alexander said.
"He essentially found himself floating in isolation."
Mr Garnett stood the matter down until 2pm to allow Ms Gould to provide a victim impact statement.
