Sex offenders in the Northern Territory can get life in prison under a new law.
SEX offenders in the Northern Territory can be locked up for life after a new law was passed in the territory's Parliament.
Attorney-General and Minister for Justice John Elferink said the Serious Sex Offenders Act 2013 was about ''making the Territory a safer place'', the NT News reports.
The NT Government first tried to push the bill through last November as part of the CLP election promise to be tough on crime.
Mr Elferink said under the new Act the Supreme Court would be able to detain serious sex offenders after their sentence finished.
Mr Elferink said the Act had a range of safeguards to make sure the power was used responsibly.
