Guard cut with machete in SA melee

AN Adelaide security guard threatened by men carrying machetes appeared to have been in the wrong place at the wrong time, police say.

A group of six men, several armed with the machetes, ran towards guards standing near the entrance of the Garage nightclub, in Waymouth Street, in the early hours of Sunday.

Police on Monday released CCTV footage which they said shows men waving the machetes in a threatening way resulting in a 33-year-old guard sustaining a minor cut to his wrist.

Acting Superintendent Christine Baulderstone told reporters the guard did not appear to have been targeted and was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

She said the group was apparently in the club earlier in the evening and something happened which led them to come back with machetes.

Police were not aware of any earlier argument with any security guards, she added.

"It's always concerning that people believe they have the right to carry weapons in the street and put the rest of the public in danger," she said.
