THERE has been a breakthrough in the seven-year mystery of a Melbourne pensioner who disappeared after a doctor's appointment.
Police have released an image of a man they want to speak to about Noble Park man Mahalingham Sinnathamby's suspicious disappearance.
Mr Sinnathamby, 68, was last seen when he visited the doctor in Hall Road, Carrum Downs, about 9.50am on August 25, 2005.
Police believe he then filled a prescription before returning home.
Investigators are urging an anonymous caller to Crime Stoppers to make contact again.
Detective Senior Constable Kane Taylor said police needed public help to solve the case and give Mr Sinnathamby's family closure.
"Even the smallest piece of information could be the final piece of the jigsaw that we need to close this case," he said on Monday.
Mr Sinnathamby usually kept in regular contact with family members and his disappearance is totally out of character.
Anyone who can identify the man in the image or who has information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
