AUTHORITIES are launching a public appeal for the mother a newborn baby left at a southwest Sydney hospital.
The baby boy, who has been called Ahn, was left behind at Canterbury Hospital shortly after his birth last week.
The Minister for Family and Community Services, Pru Goward, is planning to hold a press conference to formally launch the appeal at 9.15am this morning.
A NSW Police spokesman said police would assist the minister's department in investigations.
"We will become involved somewhere down the track,'' the spokesman said.
A hospital spokeswoman said she could not comment.
