A WESTERN Sydney family has challenged Julia Gillard to have dinner with them to discuss the real issues that affect their everyday lives.
Tina Sinsbury, of Rooty Hill, where Ms Gillard is staying this week in a bid to win over voters, has invited Ms Gillard to her home where she lives with her partner and two children - but she doesn't expect a reply.
She said cost of living expenses had hit her family hard, with electricity prices and tolls a major concern.
"Electricity bills are killing us," she said. "I'm struggling to pay to get my car on the road because my electricity bills have been so high lately," Ms Sinsbury said.
"If she wants to know what it's like to live out here she should spend the week driving to the city and back. Try getting stuck in traffic forever and paying the tolls.
"My partner works around Sylvania and Baulkham Hills area and we're sick of the road tolls. Sometimes he gets home from work and it's late and he's just too tired to do anything.
"The roads are just awful.
"I hope she goes back and does something to help us and it's not just talk."
Ms Sinsbury said she was worried Ms Gillard would miss realities facing locals during her five-day sleepover. "I saw her down at our shops the other day," she said. "Someone said to me 'I hope she doesn't have to use the toilet' because there is no bathroom there."
