EASTER came a week early for a group of critically-ill children as Bear Cottage held an egg hunt at the Prime Minister's Sydney home, Admiralty House at Kirribilli, yesterday.

Prime Minister Julia Gillard took on 2DayFM staff in an egg and spoon race before entertaining sick children, along with their friends and family, on the lawn.

Ms Gillard was joined by shock-jock Kyle Sandilands, dressed as the Easter Bunny, and his radio co-host Jackie O.

Operated by The Children's Hospital at Westmead, Bear Cottage is one of only two hospices in Australia dedicated to the care of children with a life-limiting illness and providing support to their families. Costing $10 million, the facility was established solely through community support and relies on donated funds to raise the more than $2.9 million required to operate each year.

In the last year the charity has cared for over 200 children with a life-limiting illness, including 16 during the end of their lives. Asked yesterday about associating with Sandlilands, in light of her "misogyny" attacks on Tony Abbott, a spokesman for Ms Gillard said: "Anyone who knows about the amazing work of the Bear Cottage team and the care and support they provide for so many families knows this issue raised by The Daily Telegraph is irrelevant.

"The Prime Minister is proud to have hosted members of the dedicated Bear Cottage team, so many loving parents and so many courageous children.

"The PM thanks Kyle the Easter Bunny, Jackie O and the 2DayFM team for their hard work in staging such an enjoyable event for the Bear Cottage family."
