A SECURITY guard has been glassed after he tried to throw three men out of a hotel in Newcastle.
The 29-year-old approached the men in the beer garden of a hotel in Beaumont St, Hamilton on Friday night because they were intoxicated, police said on Saturday.
An argument broke out when the guard told the men they would be ejected from the hotel.
As the guard tried to seize alcohol from one of the group, he was assaulted by all of three of them and a schooner glass struck him in the left side of his head.
Police said two hotel patrons who came to help the guard were also assaulted by the trio, who then fled the scene.
The injured guard was treated at John Hunter Hospital for a serious cut to his left ear, while the two patrons suffered bruising.
Investigators will examine the hotel's CCTV footage and urge anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
