Two people dead in light plane crash

TWO people are dead after a light plane crashed near Roma in western Queensland this morning.

A spokesman for the Australian Transport Safety Bureau confirmed they had been called to investigate the incident at Hartley Lane in Orange Hill, about 2km north of Roma Airport.

The plane, confirmed by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority to be a Cessna 210, crashed about 5.30am.

Roma resident David Schefe said Orange Hill, a rural residential area, was under the approach path to the airport.

It is not known if the plane had just taken off or was coming in to land at Roma prior to the accident.

A Department of Community Safety spokeswoman said fire crews were called to the incident.

Careflight were called to the accident site but did not transport any patients.
