THE sun is guaranteed to shine at the annual Vivid winter festival - the Empire Of The Sun, that is.
The world-renowned local pop duo will join indigenous folk star Gurrumul and German electronic pioneers Kraftwerk to perform under the illuminated sails of the Sydney Opera House.
This year's event will feature light installations on the ground and buildings around Sydney Harbour, including the stunning Lighting Of The Sails, as well a series of world-first performances by electronic, folk and rock artists at the Opera House.
The eight retrospective 3D concerts by Kraftwerk have already sold out, with a ballot for the 10,000 tickets attracting 24,000 entries.
Empire Of The Sun will premiere their much-anticipated second record Ice On The Dune, a new production will celebrate the artistic journey of Gurrumul Yunupingu and US artist and Bon Iver frontman Justin Vernon will front Sounds Of The South, celebrating the work of folk music archivist Alan Lomax.
R'n'B legend Bobby Womack will perform in Australia for the first time, while other international works include the solo debut of Underworld's Karl Hyde and the Vangelis score for Blade Runner played by the Heritage Orchestra.
