Flash flooding causes traffic chaos

SYDNEY'S CBD and inner suburbs have been pelted with rain this morning, causing flash flooding on several main arterial roads.

More than 25mm of rain has fallen in the past few hours - 20mm at Sydney Airport and 14.4mm at Terrey Hills, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.

The deluge has left the Eastern Distributor off-ramp at the Bondi/Randwick exit closed, and major traffic congestion on Gardiners Road, Mascot, and Syd Enfield Dr, Bondi Junction.

Motorists are expected to face significant delays on the run into the city this morning.

The showers are expected to ease before lunchtime.
