FUGITIVE African warlord Joseph Kony's Resistance Army may be jettisoning women and children in a desperate bid to keep his weakened group lean and mobile, an expert says.
Kasper Agger of the Kony watchdog group Enough Project said the release late last month of 28 people the LRA abducted in the Congo also suggests the group is undergoing turmoil amid a manhunt - supported by US military advisers - for its leaders.
He said Kony possibly is freeing women to punish commanders of doubtful loyalty.
The LRA is notorious for recruiting girls who become sex slaves.
Three of the abductees freed by the LRA said on Friday they were made to believe Kony himself gave the order.
