Troll admits he assaulted TV reporter

An 18-year-old New Zealand man has admitted assaulting an Australian television reporter.

Tristan Barker, son of former Split Enz drummer Michael Barker, pleaded guilty to assaulting Seven Network's Today Tonight reporter David Eccleston when he appeared in Rotorua District Court on Wednesday.

The assault took place in Rotorua in March during an interview that focused on Barker's internet trolling, which took place when he was living in Australia.

Barker, appearing before a community magistrate, must attend a restorative justice conference between now and his sentencing date on June 19.

He will be sentenced by a judge on that date.

Today Tonight reporter David Eccleston was assaulted by internet troll Tristan Barker.
